Bitching Winds....

The night before Halloween and Halloween day, the sea has been high and the waves were crashing down at Spencer's Dock . Not just high wind but high tides too are sending the ocean beyond the shores and across the roads. The winds have been brutal the last 2 days! We nearly lost a resident who felt it necessary to venture out in his boat. Luckily he was missed and rescued. Leave your boats tied on and forget about risking your life! It's just not worth it!!!!!

Still for all we hope the kiddies have fun for Halloween....

Clapboard art.....

I mentioned on facebook that I was working on a couple of craft projects. Well except for a bit of trim work and figuring out if I want them as a set or left individual, this is pretty much the finished product. Don't expect perfection because they are done on (as the title suggests) clapboard remnants. These pics show the steps although there's really not much to it.

My friend Shirley gave me a couple of pieces of painted clapboard that were kicking around after doing their house over with it. Just little end pieces maybe 10 inches wide.

I started off by sanding them and then just smearing some cape cod blue craft paint across them. I didn't want a solid color so I left them streaky.

The black horse is actually the second one I did. Because it's so striking I think maybe it's best not to display them as a set.

Below is the first one I did, which I thought was lovely and is lovely but maybe not next to the black horse.

Anyway, that's it, a bit of clapboard art. I want to trim the sides in sand and maybe hang them from burlap strips to keep with the rustic feel of the clapboard.

Note: All the fence work is just utilizing the plane marks in the wood. I wasn't going for detail, just pics that are simple yet somewhat appealing.

I am what I am....

Dr. Seuss came up with the perfect card to myself.

It's the big fat 60 for me

Just plain old COLD!

I've had my fire going regularly for some time now but I must say this morning was the coldest morning for me yet. The stove went out through the night and I didn't bother putting wood in the couple times I was up to pee. The bed was toasty warm and no wonder with me, 3 cats and the dog all snuggled in together...lol. I was hard pressed to even crawl out this morning because I knew it would be freezing. The cats however are very demanding when it comes to breakfast time...lol. No matter if it's pitch black or a bright sunny day, their internal clocks know when it's feeding time. So I bundled up in my fuzzy housecoat and began the business of lighting the fire. The dog waits for me on the bed while I take care of other business first. The cats are strategically perched and staring me down waiting for the sound of the can opener or the pop of a pull tab. And me, well I'm stuffing the stove with cardboard, paper and slabs. I light the paper, leave the glass door cracked open and finally get to the business of feeding those poor starving (joking) cats of mine. There's a mini stampede as I set two different dishes down. Spencer and Saucey always eat together while Shadow prefers to eat alone. By then Squirt is getting anxious to be on the move too. So I grab his harness, give him a cuddle and race him to the door for his morning pee. Trust me, he didn't stay out long, even with his respectable fur coat he found it cold. It's just daylight by the time everything is said and done.

The wood stove was very co-operative this morning and in the early morning darkness the blaze was warm and inviting even if the house was still cold.

Today is my last day of being 59, it's rather depressing. I wonder how many people will read this post to the end? I'm sure there'll be comments from those who do.

The arse was gone out of 'er then it's still gone out of 'er now...

Digging through old pictures today and came across this snap of my stock car driving days. LMAO! Yep, I did it once to help promote my Auto Glass Business. I didn't last the whole race but I must say I had a few laughs. I never thought I was skinny but looking back I can see where people thought I was. And yea, if I turned around there'd be no ass on me then either. I can't twerk now and I couldn't then...lol. Oh well, them was still the good ole days. I'm guessing I was mid to late 30's when this was taken.

Sorry for the quality of the pic. It's not easy taking a snap of a snap...

Living the Good Life....

This is it now, Squirt enjoying his toys, and me tripping over them like I had a houseful of kids...lol. I don't mind though because I love seeing him so happy. He surrounds himself with his favorites and never gets tired of playing with them. At night we sit by the wood stove. I watch a movie and he curls up on his mat while the girls flake out on the love seat. Who could ever be lonely living like this?

Gonna take him down to the dock in a bit and let him run his little legs off. I wonder if the mola mola sunfish is still stuck on the beach down there? Guess I'll know soon enough.

The Book of Magic...

So I came across this old book and thought to myself what a great Halloween prop. It contains spells, incantations and recipes for a variety of potions. The book has been sealed up tight and locked away for generations and has clearly seen better days. Perhaps I'll put it in the arms of the Bumble Bee boy who's face seems sheepishly blank, more like a balloon then a face...lol

If it continues to rain then I daresay all my Halloween decorations will end up being soggy and not very frightening...

PS: That book really isn't ancient and does not hold spells, incantations or recipes of potions between it's cover. Just don't tell the kid's I said this....lol.

I Ate the Witch in 2015

I doubt if this pumpkin will even last until Hallowe'en this year. It was pretty ripe and partly rotten when I bought it at a discounted price. I still had fun with it and hope that it gets appreciated by a few kids even before Hallowe'en gets here. What the heck, I'll still like and I'm the biggest kid I know...lol.

Spencer's Dock Rainbow

It's been mostly cold and rainy today so you can imagine our pleasure at seeing this beautiful rainbow landing right down in Spencer's Dock - Pilley's Island, NL. Somewhere off the point of Dog Island lays the pot of gold. Hopefully all the spirits of those poor dogs abandoned there to die are feasting on moose meat and burying bones...lol.

My friend taking a picture of the rainbow and unaware that I was taking a picture of her....lol

Not for a million dollars!!!!

Somebody jokingly said to me today, 'why don't you get rid of that dog?' And I said, 'if you gave me a million dollars I still wouldn't part with him. He's the most entertaining thing in my life, he's the happiest puppy I've ever seen and he knows he's my baby. The best part of my day is seeing him run with all the freedom he's never had until I got my hands on him. His energy energizes me, motivates me and keeps me from falling into a rut. We are both so very LUCKY!

That's my Squirt and he's here to stay!!!

Note*
God forbid anything ever happens to me but if it does I am saying here and now that Squirt is to go to Larry Samms who is the only one I trust to love him and take care of him the way I do. Think what you want but it has nothing to do with personal relationships other then the relationship between dogs and their owners.

Life is a Highway....

Every time I take a longish ride down a highway Tom Cochrane's song, 'Life's a Highway' comes to mind. More so yesterday then most because the fall colors just tickle me gold...lol. The road from Pilley's Island down to the Trans Canada can be a boring drive but not when it's bursting with fall colors.

Beautiful fall colors....

Personally, my eyes can't get enough of the beautiful fall foliage.

Bumble Bee Bight: Quality Time down at the Dock...

Bumble Bee Bight: Quality Time down at the Dock...: Went down to Spencer's Dock to pick up a bit of wood and decided to let Squirt go for a run down there. Hard to know where to let him go...

Quality Time down at the Dock...

Went down to Spencer's Dock to pick up a bit of wood and decided to let Squirt go for a run down there. Hard to know where to let him go when there's so many bears around. This worked out for us even though he did decide to lay down in a mud puddle...lol. Go figure my camera batteries died just when I tried to get a picture of it. Here's a few decent shots of my second favorite spot here in Pilley's Island. These pics are in random order but who cares? Not me...lol

The Calm after the storm....

They always say the 'Calm before the Storm', but around here we get the calm after the storm and today was picture perfect!! Couldn't ask for a prettier October day! I took this shot from out behind my house. There is no prettier backyard then mine!

Got all my Halloween decorations back in place, started on a craft project and put my lawn mower in the basement. All the while I'm still dying from a head cold...lol. I say to myself, ' you go girl!' and usually I do... Cold or no cold, ankle injury or no ankle injury, things gotta be done and they get done, just not so quickly...lol.

Yesterday's Wind

Boy o boy, if we had wind turbines around here yesterday all of Newfoundland could have free power for the next month!!! Today is still windy but last night was almost scary! I'm sure some of the gusts that hit my place were in access of 100 km! Wicked! Of course all my Halloween decorations will have to be re situated but not till the current wind backs off.

Hope all my Canadian friends are enjoying their Thanks Giving weekend. Me, well I'm nursing a cold and spending it with my furry critters. Today it's a work out to even bring wood up from the basement.

The Witch is Dead in Bumble Bee Boo Bight...lol

Yup the witch is dead and I'm pretty sure the cats did it...lol. By the way they're napping it must have been an exhausting fight...lol

Not sure....

I'm not sure how this link will work but if you like e-books you gotta read my Twisted Sisters, by me, Lori McNeilly. It truly is a work of art. It's based on a real life fantasy which has been blown sky high by me the author...lol. It really is hilarious! It's not that long and worth every bit that Amazon.ca charges. I know I had some fun writing it. K, you gotta scroll down to the bottom to find Twisted Sisters, but trust me. it is a fun read.

October sunset....

Can't let October slide by without some picture taking. These are from behind my house in the Bumble Bee Bight located in the town of Pilley's Island, NL. I face east I so get the sun hitting the tree tops.
The top one faces more north east and the second one faces more south east. Some difference in the shadows.

Does Anybody Remember These???

I've had these little guys for more years then I can remember. I've had them so long I can't remember which company gave them away as a promotion. I always thought they came out of the Tetley Tea boxes back when I was a kid. But when I google them I can't find them in Tetley's archives. Just curious if anybody recognizes them.
